Asia Pacific Video on Tour
Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art
Butterbox
Asia Pacific Video’ brings together some of the leading artists of the Asia Pacific region, through video works spanning two decades from the QAGOMA Collection. The selection conveys the important role that moving images continues to play in the Asia Pacific region and includes works featured in the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, signalling how the medium has become the chosen form of art-making for many of the region’s artists.
The use of film and video have empowered artists to create works in locations beyond conventional studio settings and art centres in Asia and the Pacific, and this has provided their practices with a renewed mobility and opportunity to create art in new places and directly reveal these contexts to audiences in other parts of the world. The medium has also offered artists new opportunity to experiment with technologies, to capture bodily actions and performative practices, and develop new ways to explore materials, objects and environments. This exhibition shows examples of how artists apply such devices, and through them stage interventions into public space, comment on social and political conditions, and involve communities in collective acts. Employing their own bodies, performing acts of endurance, and experimenting with technologies and theatrical scenarios, the artists deliver a range of critical, humorous and magical insights into their own artistic motivations and the contexts in which they live and work, offering us an active experience of creative thinking through the power and possibility of the moving image.
Asia Pacific Video will feature works by Joyce Ho (Taiwan), Chim↑Pom (Japan), Nathan Pohio (New Zealand), Junebum Park (Korea), and Yang Zhenzhong (China), Salote Tawale (Fiji/Australia) and Takahiko Iimura (Japan) plus other works from the QAGOMA Collection.
This tour will run parallel with QAGOMA’s Asia Pacific Contemporary: Three Decades of the APT exhibition which will be exhibiting at Noosa Regional Gallery (10 Dec - 27 Feb) collaborating the regions community art centre and regional gallery.
The Asia Pacific Video on tour at BFAC is supported by Noosa Regional Gallery.

Seniors Show Years 11 and 12
22nd October - 14th November
Artworks by Senior students reveal an alternative knowledge of the world through the eyes of young people during a period of limited freedom and lockdowns, of concerns about our environment – both close to home and further afield, of losses and gains, of grief and of simple pleasures, of our history and of unpalatable truths. These artworks are assessment pieces, and they are also a powerful insight into what is going on for Generation Z.

Healing Country means hearing the pleas to provide greater management, involvement, and empowerment of Indigenous peoples over country…
....it means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage…
....and that the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to the cultures and values of all Australians.

Foyer & Creamery
“Let’s Play Wild” is a collaborative art project between two emerging, Maleny based artists, Ketakii Jewson-Brown and Laura Vecmane. The two artists are exploring the theme of playfulness and wildness in its many facets; the diverse roles of the feminine, the surrounding environment, and the many sensual experiences of daily life. Landscape as Muse
Ann Brown, Kerry Harrison, Wendy Talbot, Sheena Walsh, Jo Williams
Butterbox
Landscape is a word for different topographies, environments, outlooks, views, perspectives, vistas, aspects. Like people with different views, expressions, perspectives, lived experience & different environments. But a sense of place draws people to it. The people come to the same landscape with all their differences. It is the landscape that absorbs all those different personalities and unites them. Most of the artists in this exhibition came from all different places to come together as like-minded individuals on the Fraser Coast.

Hills Spirits
Katrina Lezaic
Foyer
Taken against the Arcadian backdrop of a remote property in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Katrina Lezaic's photographs expose rarely seen intimacy drawn from a rural childhood. Rooted in place, the images are inseparable from Australian history and lore where wild spaces are foundational. The landscapes in the series glow with a morbid luminescence and reflect the region's complex hidden histories while echoing the discomfort in Australian narratives visible since Frederick McCubbin’s Lost 1886, and more recent apocalyptic stories of children managing alone. These enigmatic portraits of children draw us to themes of self-sufficiency, resilience and the shared pandemic-driven experience of isolation.
I Had too Much to Dream
Beatrice Prost
Creamery
In a complex merging of opposites – day and night, dreams and reality – Beatrice looks towards the darkness and her inwards journeys. This exhibition is presented as a poetic collection of new works among a selection of previous ones. All are installed to be immersed into uncharted waters. Her iridescent liquid inks and the intensive use of metallic media burst out as we contemplate the cusp of new beginnings. Beatrice has given herself the constraint of an extra large size to open the door to new works of unprecedented scales in her practice.
State of Emergency
Barbora Tomikova
Butterbox
In her recent project State of Emergency, Barbora Tomikova documents the aftermath of the Black Summer bushfires and bush recovery through photography and personal accounts of this historical event.
Writing a story of regeneration through both inner and outer landscapes - she captures residents who sit amongst confronting monochrome surroundings alongside evocative details of burnt native Australian flora rising from the ashes.
Intimate portraits from Peregian Beach and Cooroibah narrate the journey of recovery after such an extreme event, and often uncover what really disappeared in the blaze. This is a story of regeneration."

The Bentleys’ 40 Under 40 Exhibition and Art Prize will showcase 40 local professional and emerging Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Gympie artists who are 40 years and under. This exhibition will see the addition of the 40 Under 40 Art Prize, which will see some of our most talented young artists awarded and recognised for their achievements in the arts.
After the widely successful 2020 40 Under 40 Exhibition which saw 450 people cram into the Butter Factory for the epic opening we hope to create both a fresh exhibition and opening that will rival the first. We are going for the anti-art opening vibe with a bar, art demonstrations, local bands, cocktails, DJ, street food, and poets lined up for this mini arts festival to kick off the exhibition.
