Journey of Discovery
Cliff Bauer & Sylvia Free

"The real journey of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having fresh vision." (Marcel Proust)

This exhibition showcases the meeting of two very different mediums in the art world. On one hand Cliff’s oil paintings capture the beauty and fragility of nature while Sylvia’s visually spectacular work utilises manipulated natural elements frozen in time within prisms of glass. The explosive need to express a concept and vision in the medium of their choosing is a marvel of both artists. The creative journey for both Cliff and Sylvia has developed over several years. This exhibition is part of that evolving narrative.

As the title , “From Within”,  implies, the works are aspects of the continuing struggle to express a multitude of facets of our daily lives; the good, the bad, the joyful, the sad….

Our exhibition of paintings and ceramic sculptures are the culmination of this couples work in the last two years.
It reflects not just these moments lived of the last two years, but also the memories of decades past.

Joy of the Journey
The BRAG Trade

The BRAG Trade is a collective of early career artists with common links through volunteering at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) featuring 5 artists - Kevin Aldcroft, Gabrielle McDonald, Paul Perry, Patricia Sheppard and Raymond Singleton.

This exhibition is the largest body of work the artists have presented in one place... examining the Joy of the Journey:
  • the joy of creating
  • the joy of each artistic journey
  • the joy of travel expressed visually &
  • the joy of where the resulting artwork may take the viewer.

The exhibition will explore the artists’ diverse relationships with forms, themes and techniques. Many of the works are visually inspired pieces with unconventional painting techniques, dimensional drawings and multi-patterned pieces.

This exhibition sees the individual journeys of the artists momentarily converge and hopefully, creates a destination that evokes joy, raises possibilities and challenges others.

Hear my Voice
First Nations Artists
Foyer

Picture
With ambassador and exhibiting artist Jandamarra Cadd alongside Paul Calcott  this exhibition is about showcasing our established and emerging  First Nation artists residing here on Gubbi Gubbi, Kabi Kabi Country. To give these artists a place and platform to share their work. While offering an opportunity to show their artworks to a greater audience and gaining more exposure.. Also giving them a visual voice to share their creative expression.. Whether it be derived from their traditional stories or individual based pieces or something they feel passionate about, this exhibition will hopefully instill confidence and validation for what they do .. And having it coincide with NAIDOC week will be even more special as this time and the theme for this year is very pertinent to this exhibition.

The National NAIDOC Committee invites all Australians to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a movement of the nation for a better future, this year at BFAC we would like to honour our traditional custodians of the land on which we gather by holding this exhibition during NAIDOC.

“It’s time for our knowledge to be heard through our voice. – an Indigenous voice of this country that is over 65,000 plus years old.”
NAIDOC Co Chair John Paul Janke

Shaped by Nature
Alan Pirie & Fiona Cuthbert O'Meara
Creamery

An interplay between polarity and perspective, microcosm and macrocosm, nature versus nurture which creates the pull for us to reach our highest potential.

'Shaped by Nature' is a dual exhibition of oil paintings by Alan Pirie (Lyn McRae finalist) & ceramic works by Fiona Cuthbert O'Meara (Taste of Art, Noosa's 3D prize winner).

Embracing the relationship between what it is to be "skilled"  at one's craft and what it is that the materials we work with show the urgency to become.

These forms that emerge from our hands or paintbrush are the expressions and stories of our own relationship to the earth and ultimately ourselves.

A Class Act
Students of Artist/Teacher Michael Winters
Butterbox

This exhibition showcases the work of 9 of Michael Winters students who have attended the McGregor Summer School. Michael noted over the past few years that the work produced was of such high quality it deserved to be exhibited. All Michael's classes are “Theme Driven,” in this case the classes had the titles "Inviting Picasso; Bonnard to Your Home.; Still Life ; and Life Stilled."
Michael uses a range of highly creative, famous artists as “Creative Role Models” and the students produce work inspired by these artists. This exhibition showcases the best of the class work.

Conversations between Internal Landscapes
Margaret Builder

Creamery

Labeling shapes stops you from seeing, my abstract work is the whole collection of shapes, it is a whole being, living.
The idea is for it to evoke a feeling of whatever it is that is evoked in you, not what I was trying to tell you to feel, or what a small label might have you feel, but an overall feeling, a reflection of your own internal world.
Lets say the work is in a language you don’t know and it is somehow expressing to you an experience that is new and that is your own, from inside you.

Life Above and Below the Water
Rod McArter

 Foyer

The concept for this exhibition is around the peace and tranquility that the ocean and rivers provide.
It’s both exciting and calming, at the same time. This attracts the sense of independence and the satisfaction of being cut off from the outside dramas of a wider-world creating, through the sometimes abstract composition, the illusion and sense of being in one’s own world ensuring a sense of tranquility.

These paintings continue to appeal to both the high number of both fisherman and naturalists and those who like to be at one with the environment.

Emma Nancarrow

Creamery

Contemporary painter and online entrepreneur brings her vibrant paintings to BFAC for the first time.

" I love to see the spaces that people are creating - all of them unique. These designs reflect the individuals, families and groups that inhabit them.

"It’s these homes, work spaces, sanctuaries - that constantly inspire me to produce individual and special artworks that can either complete a room or be the starting statement piece of their creation, " Emma Nancarrow.

Muet
Barbara Ziolek and Catherine Reason Macauley

Butterbox

Both Barbara and Catherine as artists focus on the essence of women as their subject with imaginings that perhaps take many weeks to produce, a lifetime of observation, and a devotion to the arts to capture a moment in time.  In respect to the title of “Muet”, what can we really say, when the title tells you not to say anything at all.  Which brings us to “The Importance of Ironing Pom Poms”.

Twisted Tales

Dale Leach
Reciting Nursery Rhymes to our children is one of the most rewarding first steps to  developing children’s  language skills and extending their vocabulary. Nursery Rhymes are usually short and easy to remember and in times when many people were unable to read and write Nursery Rhymes were passed from one generation to the next and their secret histories were forgotten. Twisted Tales unearths some of  these secret histories and brings other Rhymes into the naughties.
