CLAY CLUB for Kids

Dear homeschoolers, you are invited to join me for an introduction to ceramic hand building techniques. During this program we will use this medium to connect with our own unique, innate creativity. Allowing a creative flow through our hands, bringing a sense of peace and calm into our bodies, as we tap into our own creative flow, through this immersive medium. We will cover all the basics of hand building construction, from slab building, pinch pots and coil building, as well as a variety of mark making and surface design explorations. During this program we will create, sculptural tea lights, botanically printed flat forms, functional ware, figurative forms and much more! This open ended medium, has unlimited creative potential and is a great way for your child to enjoy a whole body learning experience, that will encourage an understanding of their own creativity and expansion of individual ability and connection to our hands and sense of touch.

Zephyr Marama

After more than 20 years away, Zephyr Marama, returns to the Butter Factory to share her passion for the immersive art of working with clay. Zephyr’s passion for ceramics has seen her share a weekly offering for children, in Castlemaine, Victoria, for the past 2 years. A return to clay, inspired by her children and their deep love of this medium and whole body learning experience. Zephyr and her young family, return to the Sunshine Coast, after 20yrs in Victoria where she pursued her love of the creative arts, through fashion.

Zephyr has a Bachelor of Applied Science - Fashion Technology from RMIT, an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics from CSIT and a Certificate II in Fine Arts from CSIT. As well as a professional career in the fashion industry, spanning 15 years, working for various Australian brands, and creating under her own brand.

After becoming disillusioned by the commercial fashion industry and taking a break to have children, Zephyr’s interests shifted towards a more environmentally conscious and sustainable vision for her love of creating textiles and fashion. Creating Young and Magic atelier, utilising diverted dead stock textiles, hand dyeing and printing unique textiles using natural dyes and a technique called, botanical printing. This allowed Zephyr to create everything in house, in a slow fashion model, suited to conscious creation.

Zephyr will be joining our team of talented facilitators, offering a range of immersive and gently guided, opportunities for children to engage their creativity.
