Welcome to the Butter Factory Pottery Studio

As a Community we are so fortunate to have the fabulous resource of our pottery which includes the studio, its equipment, the new wheels, stools and our kilns.

The Pottery is set within the grounds of the Butter Factory Arts Centre which supports local artists in its Artisan Store and through its Exhibition spaces.  Various workshops are held at the Pottery and Butterfactory spaces as well as the Kayla Sulc Artist in Residency Program.

The Pottery is maintained by those who use it. As such, there is no cleaner for the pottery.  It is up to the user to keep it organised and clean for the next session that occupies it.
Please make sure that you follow these guidelines to make our workspace clean and operational for all!

  • Please make sure you sign in and sign out at the beginning and end of each session.
  • All monies to be paid before starting work.
  • All firing fees must be paid on collection of work.
  • Please make sure all pots are marked with your initials or 'chop' for identification.
  • Any work left to be fired must be entered in your firing sheet and kept updated by you.
  • The drying room is for work in progress only.  All clay, tools and any equipment must go home with you.
  • The kneading bench must be cleaned immediately after use so it is ready for the next person to use.
  • The sink at the end of the studio is for clay and water only.
  • Any glaze materials or paints are to be washed in the sink behind the building - this has the waste trap attached.
  • All tables and work surfaces must be wiped clean after use.
  • Please clean wheels and stools after use.
  • Make sure you wipe the bench area in front of the wheel.
  • Empty and rinse slop buckets under wheel drain - please make sure bucket is under the drain before use.
  • Any clay to be recycled can be put in the buckets under the sink.
  • Please rinse your wheel slip container and replace it over the clay slip sink.
  • Please make sure that your tools are removed so they don't end up in the slip sink.
  • All tools washed and put away.
  • Rinse sponges and return them to the sponge basket.
  • Please clean any bats or boards used. Do not leave boards to drain behind the taps- please put them away.
  • When using the slab roller, please make sure you use the appropriate canvas for the colour of the clay that you are using.  These are marked 'white clay only'.
  • When using the extruder, please clean it after use.
  • Any pots not collected after four weeks will be disposed of.
  • Please empty rubbish in the bins at the rear of the studio.

The most important thing is that you enjoy this space, be creative, find new friends and respect each other and this fabulous space.
