The David Bentley Trio returns with special guest Mark Spencer on Sax.
Jazz group DB3 Plus! traces the rich history of jazz and blues for the first concert in their 2020 series (March 22, Butter Factory Arts Centre, 11a Maple Street, Cooroy). The group will take listeners on a journey from the music’s beginnings in New Orleans to the contemporary sounds pioneered by musicians like Miles Davis and John Coltrane. David Bentley (piano and vocals), Andrew Shaw (bass), Nathan Goldman (drums) plus Mark Spencer Tenor sax and Duncan Macqueen percussion.
Reedman Mark Spencer studied in New York with saxophone greats George Coleman and Chris Potter before taking up a teaching position at the Queensland Conservatorium from 2004 to 2008. Renowned for his musicality, improvisational skill and masterly technique, Mark did the hard yards with touring bands around Australia and Hong Kong, playing funk, reggae, blues and jazz. He was a finalist in the 1995 Jazz Saxophone Awards at Wangaratta in 1995. Originally from Melbourne, Mark is now based on the Sunshine Coast.
